Man jailed for machine gun possession
A 19-year-old city man was sentenced to five years in prison and five years of special parole Thursday at Norwalk Superior Court for possessing a MAC-11 pistol machine gun.Jamie Crespo pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit possession of a machine gun. He entered the plea under the Alford Doctrine, Custom Stack Reclaimer,meaning that he disputes the state's version of events but admits the state has enough evidence to convict him.
Crespo also pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree assault, violation of a protective order, reckless driving and sixth-degree larceny in connection with unrelated arrests. He has been held on more than $1 million bond since his Feb. 3, 2012, arrest for the machine gun case.Crespo's co-defendant in the machine gun case, 19-year-old Ramsey Gomez, appeared in court Friday."Under the current environment, it was an appropriate sentence that was diligently and thoughtfully negotiated between the state and the defense,"?said Circular stacker reclaimer suppliers. "I feel this was fair to all parties involved."
Gomez and Crespo left a MAC-11 in a car when they went to a G.E.D. class at the George Washington Carver Center on Jan. 18, 2012, police said.
