Boy racer's crushed car to go on display

A boy-racer car crushed as a deterrent to street racers is to go on show at a museum. The car was destroyed in Lower Hutt on June 21 under the Vehicle Confiscation and Seizure Bill after its owner, Paraparaumu Beach digger operator Daniel Ronald Briant, Vibrating feeder was found guilty of driving while suspended, sustained loss of traction and dangerous driving.

Now, the wrecked heap will sit alongside famous war planes and classic train carriages at transport museum Motat."It's much bigger and flatter than I thought it was going to be, and the 'Vsi crusher' factor for our visitors is going to be excellent," Motat exhibitions manager Paul Swift said."This is the result of not being safe, and it's something that we take very seriously for our communities."

The flattened remains will go on display to educate people about how crushing machines work as well as road safety.Motat marketing manager Deanna Wharton said it also means the Auckland museum can stay up to date."Acquiring new items like this means that we can remain relevant in the community today, and we know that people are really interested to see it."Motat bought the car for $800 when it was put up for auction on TradeMe, with the money raised going to Youthline.
