Michael Campanaro is Wake Forest's pass-catching machine

Although though he caught an impressive 73 passes for 833 yards last season, even more was expected of Michael Campanaro in 2012.So far, Wake Forest's junior flanker has delivered.Campanaro enters today's rivalry game against Duke leading the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranked second nationally with 36 catches. He's second in ACC receiving yardage (421) and has scored four touchdowns - three receiving and one rushing - in four games. At the current pace, he'd break ex-Demon Deacon Kenny Moore's single-season ACC record of 98 receptions by year's end.

Campanaro's play has been so exciting that it's inspired a YouTube video. The performance is just what Wake Forest needed from Campanaro after the early departure to the NFL of All-ACC receiver Chris Givens. Givens led the league in receiving yards per game (102.3) and was second with 83 catches last season."When Chris decided to leave and go to the NFL, I was excited for him because he's one of my good friends,'' Campanaro said. "But I was also excited because I was going to be stepping into that No. 1 role.

"In high school, I was the feature guy on offense and got the ball all the time. So I readily accept the challenge (of increased expectations).''Campanaro wasn't heavily recruited out of River Hill High School, despite delivering some of the best offensive statistics in Maryland as a senior.Working mainly at running back on offense, he rushed for 1,848 yards and scored 29 touchdowns in 2008 to earn All-Met Offensive Player of the Year honors from The Washington Post. Yet, the only schools to offer Campanaro college scholarships were North Carolina, Northwestern and Wake Forest.
